Interior: Vintage Romance

In my "spring" post I told you about changing my room a bit. It's been this way for a couple of years now  and I feel like it's time for a change. My room has white wooden furniture, a sandcolored floor. Three walls are whit, one red and one grey. I think I am going to paint the red wall into a soft light-blue colour to brighten things up. That would go perfect with my floor and furniture! It will make a fresh, beachy and breezy combination. At the moment I really love the romantic vintage look. Soft romantic curls and lace details combined with a 'old and recycled' vibe.

While i was snooping around on the Internet, another way of decorating a room catches my eye. Instead of soft blue tones, you can also use soft pink tones in a ´grown up´ way. When you use a really soft pink to give a grey and wooden room some 'oomph' it will still have this beach vibe. The outcome with these colours will be cleaner.

Decorations give your room a finishing touch. I found these adorable decorations that you can use in your bedroom, or in any other room in your home. I like clean colours like white and beige. But in decorations I'd like to combine these colours with softer ones like blue, pink and soft brown colours.

Get out of that comfort zone!

I used to love my comfort zone. My perfect little world where everything was placed in a way I wanted it to be. Nothing crazy ever happened, and I never had to do something scary, or take a little jump. Never ever. I went to school, got home, went horse riding, went working, went to my (ex)boyfriend, and that was it. That was my little perfect life. The next day, I did everything all over again.

Until I realised I was stuck. Smothered by the same routine, stuck in a relationship that didn't work, tired of doing a study I didn't like. I finally realised things had to change or I wouldn't be going anywhere and I would be stuck in a life that I didn't like. Time to manage my own life, organise, and clean up. Time to put my Big Girl Panties on! I switched to a different study, found the courage to break up with my boyfriend and started all over again. New class, new friends, new people I met. I'll never ever regret this decision.

Every once in a while we need to man up and clean out our lives when we realise; is this really how I want it to be? When the answer is no, it's time to get out of that comfort zone. Time to shake things up. We have so much influence on our own lives, you have now idea how much until you find out. There is so much more in this life than the life you are living right now.

Have you always wanted to travel? Plan it. Do it. Have you always wanted to learn how to play the guitar? Get lessons and do it. Do you hate your current job? Do you want to grow and learn? Find a new job, tell your boss it's time to move on and go. Stop dreaming and start making them come true. You can do so much more than you think you can! I've been thinking about starting this blog for a really long time but I was scared. Scared for the reactions. What if people didn't like it? Or say awful things about it? Then i thought; so what? If this is what I want, I should do it. It doesn't matter what other people say because they can't stop me. They can't tell me I shouldn't do it.

And here I am. Writing this blogpost. Living my happy single life, which I celebrated on Valentines day. Dancing my friends every weekend, because I can and it makes me happy. Going to my horse four times a week, because I can. Doing the most fun and best study I can imagine and going to school with a smile on my face, even if I have to get up way too early.

Please promise me this. Don't say you can't. Because you can! Those things you are dreaming off? You can make them come true. Just start with a little step. And yes, things can and WILL change if you really want to. You are the main character in your life. It is your life, and you can mold it into in the way you want it to be. And trust me, no one has the power to hold you back. That's all in your head. That's what you say to yourself but it's not true. Time to put your chin up high, and show them what you can do. You'll soon realise you've got the world at your feet.

Dealing with a rainy day

Here in The Netherlands we have a lot of grey, sad, rainy day's. The weather is cold, the wind is blowing, and the rain doesn't stop pouring on your windows. These days usually can make you feel down. Maybe you are, and just had a rough day. Maybe you need to finish a paper for school, or do your administration. And you absolutely feel like shit today and can't get anything done. Sometimes it's better to stop with what you're doing, clear your head, and try next day when you're all fresh. Time to use these days for some me-time and pulling yourself together!

  • Clean your schedule
First of all, clean your schedule when you're able to. Only do the things you absolutely have to do. Cancel the rest of it! Give yourself a well deserved day off and fill it with the things you want to do. Or not do.
  • Invite a friend
Maybe you need your best friend to talk with or just some company if you don't like to spend your day on your own. Make some fancy dinner together, plan a movie-night at home and make yourselves comfortable. Your friend will get that smile back on your face in no time and will make you feel better!
  • Pyjama time!
Yes, you heard it right. No plans for today? You don't have to leave the house? Take a very long shower and throw on some nice, comfy, soft PJ's. Make some hot chocolate, go watch that good movie you've always wanted to see or your favourite movie. Or grab a good book instead and crawl under the blankets. Make yourself comfortable and allow yourself to drift off in your own little world.

  • Do something you never had the time for
I for example, always use to paint when I was younger. Unfortunately life got too busy and I have no time at all to do it. Sometimes, on these rainy days, I remember how much fun it was and take the time to do it. Maybe you've always wanted to sort out your photo's of you and your friends to put them in frames, but you were never able to find the time for it. Now is the right time to do it!
  • Take a walk in the rain
Yes, I am serious. Grab a umbrella, raincoat and some boots. You are going to take a long walk in the rain and enjoy every minute of it. Notice the smell, and how quiet it is outside besides the little tingle of the rain pouring on the streets. Notice the different colours of grey the sky has. Open your eyes, and actually 'see' the world around you. This will reload your energy and open up your mind.

When the circumstances make it hard for you to do what you want to do, go with the flow. Don't fight it. Sometimes life is giving you a little break in it's own form, because you need one. Take that break and enjoy it. Tomorrow will be another day.
